Frank Bonnici
(Life model at Life Drawing class)
Bodies and identities are always in flux and changing, never stable. Frank’s work represents and (re)imagines the possibilities of what we are and what we might become. Each of these works depicts a number of life models; with the fractured shapes in the works showing us the illusion of separated bodies and truly formed identities. The ‘individual’ is undermined by Frank’s ambiguous line-work, where the joy and pain, the scars and shadows that are often hidden are brought to the surface.
The primary medium of these works is paint markers. This medium acknowledges Frank’s past passion as a sign writer and gives his work a contemporary precision not easily developed using a brush. He has developed a life drawing business (@lastpeekstudio) as a means to access life models and the inspiration they provide. Frank is also a life model and yoga teacher, which adds to his unique perspective on the movement and deconstruction of the human body.
